The San Mateo County Event Center, home to the annual San Mateo County Fair, is the only venue accessible by all local major freeways. Over the years, it has evolved to become the Bay Area’s top destination for consumer and trade events, meetings, festivals, corporate events, sporting events, and much more. Additionally, the Event Center serves as an emergency response and resiliency center for the community.
The Event Center is home to the Inclement Weather Emergency Shelter Program for unsheltered individuals and families. This program activates on nights when cold weather and/or high probability of rain or a significant weather system are forecast for San Mateo County.
The Event Center also serves as an evacuation center and safe zone during earthquakes, fires, flooding and other disasters. The facility is a designated Emergency Operations Center — proving itself invaluable as such during the COVID-19 pandemic, CZU Lightening Fires, and other large-scale events.
The San Mateo County Event Center has demonstrated its commitment to community engagement by hosting annual Disaster Preparedness Days. Attendees have the opportunity to participate in various activities, including fire drills and simulations, as well as engaging with community representatives. The events serve as an ideal platform for residents to improve their disaster preparedness knowledge and skills, fostering a safer and more resilient community.
